Denia (in Valencian and, officially, Dénia) is a city in the Valencian Community, Spain, located on the north coast of the province of Alicante. It is the capital of the Marina Alta region, also known as “Marquesado de Denia”. It had 42,166 inhabitants registered on January 1, 2019 (INE), but in summer its population may increase fivefold, reaching 200,000. The Montgó, formerly called Monte Kaón (753 m s. N. M.) Occupies a good part of the southern half of the term and has been declared a natural park since 1987.6 At its feet lies the Cape of San Antonio, 160 m s. n. m., where the homonymous Marine Reserve is located.6
Between the Montgó and the sea lies the plain known as Plana de Denia, composed of quaternary erosion and alluvial materials of great fertility, where agriculture is developed.
